Planning a photo session is exciting—but figuring out what to wear? That part can feel a little overwhelming.

I get asked this question all the time, and I love helping clients style their sessions. Your outfits can truly elevate the look and feel of your photos, so today I’m sharing my best tips to help you feel confident, comfortable, and camera-ready.

⸻

1. Wear What Makes You Feel Good

Let’s start here: if you don’t feel comfortable in it, don’t wear it.

When you feel good, you look good—and that confidence shows in every photo. So choose clothes that feel like you, fit well, and allow you to move, sit, laugh, and love freely.

⸻

2. Choose Neutral or Soft Tones

Neutrals, earth tones, pastels, and soft shades photograph beautifully. Think creams, soft blues, dusty rose, sage green, warm browns, and muted tones.

Why? Bold neon colors or super busy patterns can distract from the most important part of the photo: you. Subtle tones keep the focus on connection and emotion.

⸻

3. Coordinate, Don’t Match

If you’re doing a couple or family session, go for outfits that complement each other rather than match exactly. Stick to a color palette of 2–3 tones and mix textures, patterns, and layers to create dimension.

Example:

• Soft beige dress + light olive shirt + cream sweater = cohesive without being identical.

⸻

4. Avoid Logos & Loud Patterns

Logos, graphics, and overly bold prints can be distracting and may date your photos. Instead, choose timeless styles and soft patterns like florals, subtle plaids, or classic stripes.

⸻

5. Add Layers or Accessories

Layers (like a denim jacket, cardigan, scarf, or hat) not only add interest but also give us more variety in your gallery. Accessories can bring in your personality—just keep them minimal and cohesive with your overall look.

⸻

6. Dress for the Season & Setting

Think about where and when your session will be. A cozy fall shoot? Go for knits, boots, and warm layers. A beach session? Flowy dresses, rolled-up pants, and bare feet look amazing.

Still not sure? I’m always happy to give suggestions based on your location, session vibe, or personal style.

⸻

7. Bring an Extra Outfit (Optional)

If you’re doing a longer session, feel free to bring a second outfit—a more casual or dressy option depending on the look you’re going for. Just make sure it’s quick to change into, and still feels like you.

⸻

Bonus Tips:

• Try everything on a few days before. Make sure it fits well and feels good when you move.

• Keep hair & makeup natural. You want to look like your best you, not a totally different version of yourself.

• Iron or steam clothes ahead of time. Wrinkles are not fun to edit.

• Limit cell phones, keys, or sunglasses in pockets. You’d be surprised how often they show up in photos!

⸻

Final Thought: Be You

Your session is about you and your story—not a fashion show. Choose outfits that make you feel at ease, reflect your personality, and let your love shine through.

And if you’re still unsure, don’t worry—I’m here to help!
